Computers...OY

Asus. Used to be a great company for making motherboards. Not now.
I bought one. And let me tell you. I AM regretting it. Big time.
The BIOS keep reseting themselves. And even when I get the configuation for my chip right in the BIOS, it won't keep it.
The computer goes off and then comes back on.
I don't know what's causing that.
Basically. It's been one big headache since I got the thing.
And I was really excited. I was going to have my new toy build.
But no. I'm on the one I made for the kids. Trying to track down info on what could be causing the problems.
I'm calling Asus tomorrow. But I was looking for a more immediate solution.
Haven't found one just yet. But I haven't given up either.

My advanced features of my graphics card are not able to be reached when XP is on here. I don't know why. But I have way too much red in my screen and XP offers no option for fixing that.
I'm really starting to believe my first idea was right. XP is evil.
My graphics card had this nifty little advance screen that I could adjust colors with. I can't access it anymore with XP.
It's just wrong.

Well. I'm going back to the trenches. Wish me luck.
I think I'm gonna need it.
Anyone know if you can change the motherboard without harming the chip?
I may just trash the Asus and go with something else.
Any info helpful.
Thanks
Ali

That does sound like a bad motherboard.   But i wouldnt blame asus, all products will put out a few bad units sometimes.   It could be something else, like a power supply dying, or a card/memory not seated right too, but i'm thinkin not.   Only other thing I would say is that when a modern motherboard is a in a case it should take ZERO pressure to get it to fit properly and screw down.  If it had to warp at all to get screwed into place that is bad.
As far as not breaking the cheap....before you take it out, touch alot of metal to de-static yourself.....and learn about thermal grease.   I was going to try to explain this all here, but you'll get a better and more knowledgeable information on the web.

Thanks Jeremy. You are an angel for sharing.

As it turns out. I wasn't only fighting a bad motherboard. The new RAM I bought, Also bad.
So. Two problems, combined. Made for one crazed Misfit.

I have since decided to contact the store I bought both from and see about getting a rebate or exchange for the bad pieces.
I'm not angry with them really. Things like this can happen. It's just a bit maddening is all.

Thankfully, I have the original system, so I can still work and stuff. I just wanted to play with my new toys is all.

LOL!! Imajinit, you are just too funny!
I'm taking you to a party!

As of this morning, I called the company I bought the MB and Ram from.
He's going to exchange them for me!
Well, the RAM anyway. As for the MB. I am getting a different make. The man is asking me to pay the amount over the cost of the old board.
Which is about a twenty dollar difference. I don't mind. That's fair.
He was so easy to deal with.
I wish more companies would act like this one.
I thought I'd have a 10 round fight to get a resolution. But no. This man was so fair, and nice. Even apollogized for my inconvience.
I gots to love a company like that.

So. I'll have to wait a bit for my new toys. But hey. I can do that.
