My basic ramblings. Read on if you like. I'm not generally concerned about being "PC" so if you're a crabby person...save yourself some stress. Don't read.
Baby, it's cold outside!

12. 12 freakin' degrees. And tomorrow? Colder. Possible minus degrees happening tomorrow night.

Where's the dang global warming! I see no evidence of it now.

So, still haven't gotten the DVD burning program to work right. Beginning to think Bill Gates is behind some door laughing his head off at us. I'm actually desperate enough to..and I CAN'T believe I'm saying this...buy XP home version. :: slaps hands to head and whimpers:: No no... Since when did I become one of the sheep!? I like my 98. 98 good. XP bad. Who knows...maybe I'm wrong. But I'm just so used to my little program and what I've seen of XP hasn't made me wanna jump on the upgrade my software bandwagon.
Live and learn I guess.

So what's new with you?
I probably should give you another story from the life of Ali, but it's late, I'm tired.
How about Friday? Does Friday work for you?
Okies. See you then.

Are you trying to burn a playable video DVD? if so the encoding can take a LONG time....hours.

if you want to make sure your DVD drive is working well just burn a DVD full of files. Good opportunity for a data backup.

Hey Jeremy!
I was actually attempting to burn some episodes I have on my hard drive. (3 West Wing episodes, commercials cut out). It was getting stuck on the transcoding phase. For 7 hours. That was before I finally gave up. I am currently looking for another program. I've decided Arcsoft is a waste of my time, and they haven't answered me yet. HP was VERY prompt in their response to me about the issue, even though it wasn't of their creation. (The program came with the burner). Even though none of their solutions worked, I still recommend HP products to people I know.
Oh look, I've rambled. Anyway, if you know of another program that may work, please let me know.

I hear the full Nero package is good. It has everything from mp3 encoding, dvd encoding, label printing etc.

Nero? I'll look into it. I've been doing research about the different programs available. Some of the prices on some of them frighten me. Plus, I'm discovering, that I'm really going to have to upgrade to Win XP. Most of the programs I've looked at are made for Win 2000 or XP. Sucks for us 98 users. But then, I knew I'd have to give up my operating system eventually.

Thanks for the tip Jeremy! It's very appreciated.

Being an IT professional I can honestly say the windows 9x series sucks and was inherantly prone to crashing. Xp uses HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) so now when something crashes it doesn't crash you whole system. I have had XP home since its open. I may have had it crash 2 or 3 times in the last 3 years as opposed to the 9x series which sometimes would crash on me 3 or 4 times a day.

I am now. An XP user. Thanks to my step-son Zak. He was gracious in letting me use his copy til I purchase one of my own. I was really tearing my hair out about the DVD thing. I haven't yet tried to burn a DVD, I'm still going through XP and making it look like I want.
I'll be the first to say it...I was wrong. XP is not evil.
Then, I've only really had it installed for .... 2 hours. Time will tell.

I'm off to mess around with this some more. I slaved my old hard drive to the new and am still transfering some files over. Hopefully nothing conflicts.
