My basic ramblings. Read on if you like. I'm not generally concerned about being "PC" so if you're a crabby person...save yourself some stress. Don't read.
It's really my own fault

As the title states, sometimes, I feel stupid. Like today for instance. I'm sick, granted, that could be some of it. But no, I think it's more that I am under-informed about things.
I'm building my new computer. I bought a brand new DVD burner for my new toy. Of course, it sat there mocking me, until I put it in the current computer to play with it. I decided it was research. Yeah. That's it. Have to explore the options, so when it's in the new computer, I already have figured things out. Yeah. That's the ticket.
So..I put it in. No problem. I even get through the process of authoring my first DVD, BUT. It seems to take forever to make one DVD. Now, I'm not a rocket scientist, but it shouldn't take more than an hour to make a DVD. Right? Maybe it's the program. A conflict or something. I search for the answer. Hence, why now, I feel stupid. There doesn't seem to be anyone else expirencing the same problem as I am.
I haven't explained this right. I can tell already. I'm on cold medicine, so bear with me. And if you happen to know what the answer is, I would not yell at you for telling me. Truly, any insight at this point would be welcomed.

I have the following> A 30 gig, 513 DDR memory, AMD Athlon XP 1600, running Win 98SE, with an ATI graphics card, Sound Blaster live sound card, An ATI TV tunrer card, HP 9100 CD burner , and a HP 300i DVD writer. (I run Norton Anti-virus)
The DVD writer came with Arcsoft Showbiz DVD software.
Here's where I run into problems. I go through the Showbix steps of making a DVD. Adding the files I have 3 files added. , creating the menu. I get to the point of where it will get ready to make this DVD. It has 5 stages. The second of which is something called Transcoding. I think I know what this means, but I won't assume to know exactly.
It gets to Transcoding and stays there. On the first of the 3 files. The longest I let it sit there for so far is 4 hours. And it only ever gets mid way through the first file. Does that sound right to any of you? It doesn't seem right to me. So I stop it, and go looking for answers. So far..Bumpkis!
So now...in my cold medicine haze, I am looking for another DVD burning program. Maybe it won't be as pretty as the Showbiz software, I really don't care. I would like to make a DVD in less than an hour. I don't think it's too much to ask. I really don't.

So..that's my day thus far kids. I'm really hazed out, attempting to find something that works. My kingdom for that.

Till next time

Nah, Your right on. IUt is actually encoding the video to a new format so that .vob files can me burned to dvd. Processing video takes a long time, if these are 1 gig files like i typically do, then 4 hours for half isnt too bad. I have near the same setup and i have alot of trouble ith it locking up half way through. Use task manager to see that the process is actually taking processor time

Another example of why blogging is great. Ask any question and you'll get an answer, and I mean on anything. Of course, you only had to wait a month for a reply, but you still got one. Blog ON.
